Michael Correia
Lead Technician, Conduit Heat + Cool
Background
Michael grew up in New Bedford and has been working on heating systems in the city since 1998. His father was a plumber, and Michael apprenticed in both plumbing and HVAC before focusing full-time on heating systems in 2002.
He holds EPA Certification (Section 608, Type I/II/III) and a Massachusetts HVACR License (#MA-7439). He has worked on radiator systems in every era and condition—from 1880s steam to 1970s hot water to modern hydronic loops.
Expertise
- Steam and hot-water radiator systems: Diagnostics, balancing, trap repair, pressure management
- Boiler maintenance: Combustion analysis, efficiency measurement, internal cleaning and descaling
- Retrofit planning: Evaluating heat-pump compatibility, hydro-air conversion, boiler replacement options
- Emergency response: Rapid diagnosis and repair of heating failures
Philosophy
Michael believes that a boiler is not a disposable commodity. A system built in the 1950s can run for decades longer if maintained properly. He keeps meticulous service records and takes pride in understanding the specific engineering of each client's system. His diagnostic approach is methodical—measure, identify root cause, explain options. He doesn't believe in reflexive replacement.
"Most heating problems are not equipment failures," he says. "They're balancing problems, air in the system, or neglect. Fix those first, and you buy 10–15 more years."
Outside Work
Michael is a volunteer at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, where he has helped maintain the historical building's original 1930s heating system. He reads engineering documentation and patent filings from the early-20th-century heating era and often shares technical history with clients.
